 For the previous 36 hours Jewel had been continually swishing her tail and regularly shuddering and twitching from her shoulders back, kicking her belly and stamping her feet. I didn’t go to work Friday and we were pretty convinced she wouldn’t make it through to morning. We were lucky enough to be checking Jewel just as her waters were beginning to break and were able to witness the birth. I got to break the bag for him and Jason helped deliver him, help him stand for the first time and also helped him feed for the first few times. Dash seemed convinced Jason was mummy and followed him round and round the paddock as if to say “where’s the dude with the milk gone?”. He’s incredibly inquisitive and confident with legs that go on forever. Everything I dreamed of and more. Jewel has been absolutely brilliant with him. My biggest concerns were that she would reject him or refuse to let us near him but she’s been her usual lovely self. More than happy to have people around but always watching over him at the same time. The perfect mum. I can’t thank Teresa and Jason enough for their support encouragement and advice over this last year. Jewel and I have been treated like one of the family at Regal Park. It feels like my second home. I must have driven them nuts with my continual questions worries and early morning visits. It was Hillbilly who was up at 2am in the morning checking her every night while I got to stay in my nice warm bed. Even Hades has had the privilege of being a regular visitor and when he split his chest open after the vet Teresa was the first person I called (and got there a lot sooner!). I followed her advice on wound care down to the letter and he healed up perfectly without any visible scarring. Hillbilly, TJ, Lizzie, Ian, CC, Saahirah, Mel, Happy Appy, Cheamos, Brit, Toodles, Teflon, Kel, Poogy, Karly, Slinky, Glenfine, Loopy, Bannanabum, Dandy, Squid, Clearwater, Tamara, Shusasbem, Glendelqh,Teegs SSB and everyone else I might have forgotten thanks for being a part of this journey. It feels like things have gone full circle and it seems the journey is to begin again.
